Tasting Notes

This deep ruby red wine boasts highly complex nuances of small purple wildflowers, ripe cherries, blackberries or other dark-fleshed fruit as well as fruit preserved in spirits with spicy undertones of pink peppercorn and hints of carob and incense. In the mouth, the wine presents a rich, no-frills, full-bodied, flavourful yet smooth taste with well-blended tannins. The impressive finish is at once long and well-balanced.

Taurasi DOCG "Poliphemo" 2010 - Luigi Tecce: Why we like it

This greatly expressive Taurasi wine hails from a vineyard that is 12,000-square meters in surface area and approximately 80 years old. It rests atop sandy, clay, limestone-rich soil that is enriched with volcanic sediment. The wine is fermented naturally and then left for an extended 40-day maceration period, both in chestnut-wood vats. The wine is then matured in oak barrels on fine lees for 24 months, without being filtered or purified. The result is a fine Taurasi wine of unmistakable grandeur with bold aromas.
